F-TYPE 400 Sport: The Special-Edition Sweet Spot
There is one F-TYPE that sits rather neatly between the V6 S and the V8: the 400 SPORT.
Created as a special-edition celebration of the F-TYPE, the 400 SPORT took Jaguar’s supercharged 3.0-litre V6 and pushed it to 400 PS, or approximately 395 bhp, while torque remained at 460 Nm. It was available in both Coupé and Convertible forms, with rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations depending on specification.
The headline figures were impressive: 0–60 mph in around 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 171 mph. In other words, it matched the performance territory of the regular 380 PS V6 S while adding another 20 PS and a more focused specification.
The 400 SPORT was about more than the extra power, however.
It received a distinctive visual treatment, including yellow and dark satin detailing, 400 SPORT badging and unique interior finishes. It was intended to be recognisable as something special without going all the way to the V8-powered R or SVR.
And that makes the 400 SPORT particularly interesting today.
It has the character of the V6, the lighter feel of the six-cylinder car and enough performance to make the numbers genuinely serious. Yet it also has the exclusivity and specification that make it stand apart from an ordinary F-TYPE.

WHERE DOES THE 400 SPORT FIT?
On paper, the 400 SPORT looks almost too close to the 380 PS V6 S to justify its existence. But that misses the point.
The 380 S was the performance V6.
The 400 SPORT was the special one.
And while the additional 20 PS isn’t enough to transform the car’s straight-line performance, the combination of its limited-edition status, unique styling and upgraded specification gives it an identity of its own.
For an owner who wants something rarer than a standard F-TYPE but isn’t necessarily interested in the extra weight, thirst and cost of the V8, the 400 SPORT makes a compelling argument.
It is, in many ways, the V6 connoisseur’s F-TYPE.
Jaguar’s original F-TYPE Coupé specification confirms the 3.0-litre V6 S at 380 PS/460 Nm, 4.8 seconds to 60 mph and 171 mph. The 400 SPORT subsequently raised the V6’s peak output to 400 PS while retaining 460 Nm.
